DURHAM, N.C. (theACC.com) – No. 2 seed Florida State (38-13) used an eight-run third inning to pull away from No. 7 seed Duke (37-19) in a 14-7 win in the first of two quarterfinal games of the 2025 ACC Baseball Championship on Friday, May 23, in Durham, North Carolina.
The Seminoles will play the winner of No. 14 seed Boston College (28-28) and No. 3 seed North Carolina (39-12) in the second of two semifinal games on Saturday, May 24, at 5 p.m. ET on ACC Network.
All nine Florida State players in the lineup recorded a hit for the game, including six players with multi-hit games, to plate 14 runs on 18 hits in the win.
For the Seminoles, freshman Myles Bradley (4-for-5, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 3 runs) led the way with two home runs, while Brody DeLamielleure (3-for-5, 2B, RBI, 3 runs) added three base hits and scored three runs as the designated hitter. The top three hitters in the lineup – Gage Harrelson (2-for-4, 2 RBI, run), Alex Lodise (2-for-6, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and Max Williams (2-for-4, BB, RBI, run) – all had two hits each.
The Blue Devils had seven runs on nine hits, led by Noah Murray (2-for-2, HR, 2B, 4 RBI, run) with a game-high four RBIs, while AJ Gracia (1-for-4, BB, RBI) and Jake Berger (1-for-4, RBI) each had one.
Florida State ace Jamie Arnold (7-2) earned the win, surrendering five runs on seven hits, one walk and seven strikeouts over 5.0 innings on the mound.
The loss fell to Owen Proksch (2-3), as the Blue Devils’ starter gave up six runs on eight hits, one walk and four strikeouts over just 2.1 innings of work.
Both teams came out swinging, as Florida State jumped out first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by an RBI single off the bat of Bailey, only to see Duke respond with two runs of its own in the top of the second on a two-run double by Murray.
With the score tied at 2-2, the Seminoles retook the lead at 3-2 with a solo home run from West in the bottom half of the second inning before blowing the game wide open with an eight-run third inning, in which 12 different players went to the plate.
In the eight-run third inning, FSU led off the frame with four consecutive singles, with the fourth one coming off the bat of Chase Williams to drive in two runs and put the score at 5-2.
Delamielleur followed with an RBI double to center field to add to the lead, before three consecutive base hits later in the inning – a two-run triple by Lodise, an RBI single from Max Williams and a two-run home run from Bailey – pushed the Seminoles’ lead to 11-2 after just the first three innings of play.
Duke quickly got two runs back in the top of the fourth on a two-run home run off the bat of Murray to cut into the Seminoles’ lead at 11-4, only to see Florida State take advantage of two Blue Devils’ fielding errors and push across another run on a Harrelson sacrifice fly to extend the lead back to eight at 12-4.
Again, the Blue Devils would chip away at the FSU lead, plating two more runs in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single through the right side by Berger and a passed ball to put the visitors down 12-6 midway through the sixth inning.
FSU added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Harrelson RBI single before Bailey struck again in the bottom of the seventh inning with his second home run of the game, this one a monster shot to right field, to push the lead to 14-6.
Duke added a run in the top of the ninth, but it was not enough as the Seminoles advanced to Saturday’s semifinal round.
