WEST WINDSOR, N.J. (theACC.com) – Winning the Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight and claiming second in the Varsity Eight, Stanford captured the 2025 NCAA Rowing National Championship. It marks the program’s third national title and the third in Atlantic Coast Conference history.
The Cardinal’s victories are the ACC’s third national championship (Virginia, 2010 & 2012) and the ninth among current institutions. Stanford previously won national titles in 2009 and 2023.
Stanford Rowing becomes the ACC's sixth team national champion this season. The conference has also brought home titles in women’s soccer (North Carolina), women's swimming & diving (Virginia), fencing (Notre Dame) men’s tennis (Wake Forest) and women’s lacrosse (North Carolina).
Stanford finished the three-day event with 129 points with its two first-place finishes in the Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight and second-place finish in the Varsity Eight. California and Virginia tied with 79 points in the final standings, but with the Golden Bears’ higher finish in the Varsity Eight, they claimed ninth overall, while Virginia placed 10th. Syracuse finished 12th with 67 points.
The day started with Stanford’s victory in the Varsity Four Grand Final, as the Cardinal (6:56.532) edged second-place Washington (6:58.598) by more than two seconds to earn the win. It marked Stanford’s first Varsity Four title in program history and completed a sweep of the event across the week.
Also sweeping their event this weekend was the Stanford 2V8, with the Cardinal (6:13.075) narrowly defeating Washington (6:14.931) again by nearly two seconds. The Stanford 2V8 has won the NCAA crown for three straight seasons. Virginia also competed in the Second Varsity Eight Grand Final and placed sixth.
As the lone ACC boat in Varsity Eight Grand Final, Stanford (6:08.336) was defeated by Yale (6:06.138) and claimed second place.
The 129 points matches the total from Stanford’s 2023 national-championship team. The Cardinal were just two seconds shy in the Varsity Eight from becoming the first team to sweep all three events since Washington accomplished the feat in 2019.
