CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) - Clemson’s Reese Basinger was named the Atlantic Coast Conference 2025 Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlines the sport’s All-ACC Academic Team, the league announced on Thursday.
The right-handed pitcher out of Evans, Georgia, is majoring in Biological Sciences at Clemson. Basinger was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic-All America team, becoming just the third player in program history to be named an Academic All-American and the first since 2023.
During the 2025 season, Basinger maintained a 2.94 ERA with three shutouts and two saves in 178.1 innings. She struck out 121 batters while holding opponents to a .255 batting average. Basinger was named the 2025 ACC Softball Pitcher of the Year just three days before leading Clemson to its first ACC Softball Championship title in program history. The First-Team All-ACC and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First-Team All-Region selection surpassed 500 career strikeouts and 50 career wins during the 2025 campaign.
Forty-one student-athletes who earned All-ACC first, second, third or All-Freshman-team honors this season also secured spots on the academic team, highlighted by all four ACC Softball Yearly Award Winners in Player of the Year Cori McMillan (Virginia Tech), Pitcher of the Year Reese Basinger (Clemson), Defensive Player of the Year Thessa Malau'ulu (Duke) and Freshman of the Year Macey Cintron (Clemson). All 10 student-athletes on the All-ACC Freshman Team earned All-ACC Academic Team honors.
All 15 ACC softball programs are represented on the All-ACC Academic Team with Florida State leading the conference with 17 student-athletes followed by Virginia with 14, Duke and Louisville with 13, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Pitt, Stanford and Virginia Tech with 12 apiece, Clemson and Syracuse with 11 apiece, NC State with 10, Boston College with eight, and California with 7.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. In addition, student-athletes must compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests and 20 percent of their team’s contests as a pitcher.
