North Carolina’s David Ford Headlines 2025 All-ACC Academic Men’s Golf Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina senior David Ford has been named the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference Rod Myers Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlined the 2025 All-ACC Academic Men’s Golf Team, announced on Tuesday, July 8.

Ford becomes the first Tar Heel to win the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award since the award’s inception in 2008, when Barden Berry was honored. The Peachtree Corners, Georgia, native also becomes the fifth different player to win ACC Player of the Year and ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the same season, joining Georgia Tech’s Christo Lamprecht (2024) and Ollie Schniederjans (2014), Clemson’s Jacob Bridgeman (2022) and NC State’s Stephen Franken (2018).

Earning ACC Player of the Year for the second time in his career, Ford finished the 2024-25 season as the No. 1 player in the Scoreboard Rankings. The lefty posted a nation-best five individual titles on the season and set the program’s single-season scoring average at 68.78 strokes per round, the fourth-best average in NCAA history. His mark broke the previous ACC best of 68.93, set by Wake Forest's Bill Haas in 2003-04. Ford also became just the third Tar Heel ever to be named to the All-ACC team in all four seasons, joining Austin Greaser and Dustin Bray.

A total of 61 student-athletes were named to the All-ACC Academic Men’s Golf Team, as all 15 schools were represented. Twelve of the 16 members of the 2025 All-ACC Team also earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team. The list included: Ford, Bryan Kim (Duke), Tyler Weaver (Florida State), Sebastian Moss (Louisville), Nick Mathews (NC State), Jacob Modleski (Notre Dame), William Sides (SMU), Nathan Wang (Stanford), Paul Chang (Virginia), Bryan Lee (Virginia), Scotty Kennon (Wake Forest) and Marshall Meisel (Wake Forest). Ford is the only student-athlete on this year’s All-ACC Academic Team to earn the honor four times, while eight student-athletes are three-time honorees.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was established in September 2007 and is presented annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in each sport. To be eligible for the All-ACC Academic Team, student-athletes must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative GPA over their academic career. In addition, student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.
