ACC Names Cross Country Performers of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia runners Nicholas Bendtsen and Caitlin Thomas were selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Performers of the Week, respectively, while Georgia Tech freshmen Wyatt Windham and Caitlin Thomas were named the ACC Men’s and Women’s Freshmen of the Week.
 
Men’s Performer of the Week - Nicholas Bendtsen, Grad., Virginia (Wolcott, Connecticut)
  • Led the Cavaliers to a 1-2-3-4 finish in their season opener at the Spider Alumni Open.
  • Won the men’s 6k race, clocking a time of 17:57.6.
  • Made his Virginia debut as a graduate transfer from Princeton.
 
Men’s Freshman of the Week - Wyatt Windham, Distance, Georgia Tech (Dahlonega, Georgia)
  • Made his collegiate debut at the Stan Sims invite, finishing the 4-Mile Run in 19:50.97.
  • He was the highest-placed freshman at the meet.
  • Windham earned his first career top-10 finish in his collegiate debut, finishing 10th.
 
Women’s Performer of the Week - Stella Kermes, So., Virginia (Waxhaw, North Carolina)
  • Led the Cavaliers to a 1-2-3-5 finish in their season opener at the Spider Alumni Open, hosted by Richmond.
  • Paced the Cavaliers to a first-place finish, logging just 18 points.
  • She won the women’s 4k race, recording a time of 13:17.3.
  • She bettered her season opener time at this meet from a 10th place finish, clocking 13:56.9 just a year ago.
 
Women’s Freshman of the Week - Caitlin Thomas, Fr., Georgia Tech (Hastings, New York)
  • In her first career collegiate event, she had a 2nd-place finish.
  • Her second-place finish made her the lead freshman finisher in the season opener.
  • She finished the 5K Run at the Stan Sims Invite in 17:23.32, finishing ahead of all non-Georgia Tech racers.
