CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse back Bo van Kempen was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week for field hockey, while Virginia’s Lauren Sloan was selected as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for matches played during the opening weekend of the regular season.
Bo van Kempen, Grad., Back, Syracuse (Zevenaar, Netherlands)
- Scored a Syracuse-record six goals in the Orange’s season-opening win over Lock Haven.
- Her six goals were the most by an ACC student-athlete since at least 2017.
- Added a hat trick in Syracuse’s 5-2 win over Fairfield on Sunday.
- Totaled nine goals, one assist and 19 points throughout the week, helping No. 11 Syracuse go 2-0.
- Her 4.50 goals per game are tied for the national lead.
Lauren Sloan, Fr., Back, Virginia (Louisville, Ky.)
- Sloan notched her first goal and her first assist in her collegiate debut.
- Assisted on a goal scored by Amelie Reed, pushing the Cavaliers’ lead to three.
- Scored Virginia’s final goal for the impressive 5-1 win over a ranked opponent.
- Helped anchor the Cavaliers back line against No. 18 Penn State, holding the Nittany Lions to just one goal.

- The ACC went 12-5 throughout the opening week of the season and is tied for the most wins nationally.
- ACC teams went 8-2 last week when playing at home or a neutral site.
