CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – In the final weekend dedicated entirely to non-conference play, all 16 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball teams are slated to take the diamond for at least three games.
Miami, ranked No. 17 nationally, will host in-state rival No. 10 Florida for a three-game series this weekend. After a come-from-behind victory Wednesday night, the Hurricanes sit at 10-0 on the season and lead the nation in scoring, averaging 15.5 runs per game. The Hurricanes and Gators will meet on ACC Network on Friday, February 27, beginning at 7 p.m. ET. The games on Saturday, February 28, and Sunday, March 1, are slated to stream on ACC Network Extra.
Clemson also remains undefeated, heading into a three-game set with in-state rival South Carolina. The Tigers and Gamecocks will meet Friday in Columbia, South Carolina, for a true road game before a neutral-site game Saturday at Segra Park, also located in Columbia. On Sunday, Clemson will host South Carolina beginning at 3 p.m. ET.
Virginia Tech will head to Arlington, Texas, for three games against ranked opponents in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series. The Hokies will square off with No. 23 Texas A&M (Friday, 8 p.m. ET), No. 4 Mississippi State (Saturday, 4 p.m. ET) and No. 20 Tennessee (Sunday, 11:30 a.m. ET) in the Lone Star State, with all three games streaming on FloSports.
Seven ACC teams are ranked in the most recent D1Baseball poll, with Georgia Tech leading the way at No. 5. Joining the Yellow Jackets in the rankings are No. 8 North Carolina, No. 14 NC State, No. 15 Clemson, No. 16 Wake Forest, No. 17 Miami and No. 21 Florida State.
ACC play is set to begin on Friday, March 6, with five series between conference opponents.
Noting ACC Baseball
- Miami, Virginia and Georgia Tech lead the nation in scoring. Miami leads the country at 15.5 runs per game, followed by the Cavaliers (14.5 rpg) and the Yellow Jackets (14.4 rpg).
- Georgia Tech (.414), Miami (.374), and NC State (.365) each rank in the top five nationally in batting average.
- On the mound, Clemson (1.43), NC State (1.72) and North Carolina (2.56) rank in the top 10 of earned run average.
- Wake Forest’s Chris Levonas leads the nation with 19.73 strikeouts per nine innings on the mound.
- Virginia’s Kevin Jaxel has picked up three wins on the season, which is tied for the national lead.
