ACC Announces Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its Outdoor Track & Field Performers of the Week on Tuesday, recognizing seven standout efforts from six different programs. Clemson led the way with a pair of selections following a strong opening weekend of competition across the league.
 
ACC Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Jamir Brown, Syracuse, So. (Riverside, N.J.)
  • Opened the season with the nation’s fastest time in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 13.49 seconds.
  • Brown’s time is 0.13 seconds faster than that of any other competitor nationally.
 
ACC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Matthew Prebola, Duke, Sr. (Tunkhannock, Pa.)
  • Won the men’s javelin throw at the Bob Davidson Team Challenge.
  • Threw a personal-best of 70.29m (230-7) to win the event by more than 23 feet.
  • His mark leads the ACC and ranks fourth nationally.
 
ACC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week
Kai Anderson, California, Fr. (San Diego, Calif.)
  • Placed second in the pole vault at the Cal Invitational with a mark of 5.20m (17-0.75).
  • His mark is second-best nationally among freshmen and 16th among all athletes.
  • He is also tied for the second-best mark in the ACC.
 
ACC Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Aniyah Kitt, Clemson, So. (Enterprise, Ala.)
  • Won the 200 meters at the Black & Gold Challenge, posting a personal-best time of 22.85 seconds.
  • Her time leads the ACC and ranks second nationally.
  • Kitt’s time now ranks fourth on Clemson’s all-time list.
 
ACC Women’s Outdoor Co-Field Athletes of the Week
Kaia Tupu-South, Louisville, Sr. (Auckland, New Zealand)
  • Posted an NCAA-leading mark of 17.50m (57-5) in the shot put at the USF Alumni Invitational.
  • Moved into third-place in Louisville history in the event in her first outdoor meet with the Cardinals.
  • She also recorded a 52.92m (173-7) in the discus throw, which leads the ACC.
 
Adriana Kruzmane, Miami, Fr. (Lecava, Latvia)
  • Won the Hurricane Invitational with a mark of 13.16m in the triple jump.
  • The mark ranks first in the nation in the event.
 
ACC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week
Nancy Cherop, Clemson, Fr. (Mount Elgon, Kenya)
  • Won the 1,500 meters at the Black & Gold Challenge with a time of 4:12.89.
  • Her time is the fastest in the nation thus far and set a facility record.
  • The mark is also the third-fastest in Clemson history.
