This Week in ACC Outdoor Track & Field

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its Outdoor Track & Field Performers of the Week on Tuesday, recognizing six standout efforts from four different programs. Florida State and Louisville led the way with a pair of selections following a record-shattering weekend of competition across the league.
 
ACC Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Geoffrey Kirwa, Louisville, So. (Kapsabet, Kenya)
  • Posted a world-leading time of 8:08.10 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
  • The time broke his own ACC record in the event by nearly six seconds, while also breaking the Louisville and meet records.
  • Also stands as the second-fastest in collegiate history, trailing a mark that has stood since 1978.
 
ACC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Shamar Reid, Florida State, Jr. (Dalvey, Jamaica)
  • Finished as the top collegiate athlete in the discus throw at the Tom Jones Memorial Invite.
  • Took the silver medal with a personal best mark of 63.10 meters.
  • His throw from the meet ranks second in Florida State program history.
  • Reid ranks first in the ACC and second in the NCAA in the event this season.
 
ACC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week
Elsingi Kipruto, Louisville, Fr. (Mosoriot, Kenya)
  • Made his collegiate outdoor track & field debut at the Bryan Clay Invitation in the men’s 10,000 meters.
  • Broke the ACC record in the event with a time of 27:29.83 which also leads the nation this year.
  • His time ranks 11th in collegiate history.
  • Toppled the previous ACC record by nearly nine seconds and broke the Louisville record by 42 seconds.
 
ACC Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Shenese Walker, Florida State, Sr. (Saint Thomas, Jamaica)
  • Posted a wind-legal personal best of 10.80 seconds in the 100-meter dash.
  • Broke both the ACC and Florida State records in her season debut.
  • Her time ranks as the second-fastest time in both the world and NCAA this season.
  • The mark also ranks fifth in collegiate history.
 
ACC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Ali Sahaida, California, Sr. (El Dorado Hills, California)
  • Broke the California pole vault record with a mark of 4.55 meters (14-11) at the Mt. SAC Relays.
  • Her mark led all ACC competitors last week and ranks second in the ACC this season.
  • The mark is tied for the fourth-best nationally.
  • She now owns the Golden Bears’ indoor and outdoor pole vault records.
 
ACC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week
Sadie Engelhardt, NC State, Fr. (Ventura, Calif.)
  • Broke both the ACC and NC State record in the 1500 meters at the Wake Forest Invitational.
  • Her time of 4:03.28 was her second Wolfpack record in as many weeks.
  • The mark ranks second in the national this season and sixth in collegiate history.
  • Earns ACC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week honors for the second consecutive week.
