This Weekend in ACC Baseball

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Several ranked baseball teams throughout the Atlantic Coast Conference will hit the road for conference play, setting up an intriguing weekend. With just four weekends remaining in the regular season, the race for the ACC Championship is beginning to shape up for a thrilling finish.

North Carolina, which climbed to No. 2 in this week’s D1Baseball Top 25, makes the short trip to Durham, North Carolina, to face Duke in a three-game series beginning Thursday, April 23. The Tar Heels have won eight of their last 10 games, including a series victory over then-No. 2 Georgia Tech last weekend. No ACC team has been better on the road this season than North Carolina, which boasts a 9-1 mark in true road games.

Road tests highlight the weekend for the ACC’s top teams, with four of the league’s five ranked programs playing away from home. In addition to North Carolina, No. 8 Florida State, No. 10 Virginia and No. 22 Boston College will all be on the road. The Seminoles head to the West Coast for a three-game series against Stanford beginning Friday at 9 p.m. ET. Virginia travels to Pittsburgh for a series against Pitt, which defeated No. 12 West Virginia earlier this week, 23-1. The series between the Panthers and Cavaliers features two of the ACC’s top home run-hitting teams.

Boston College travels to South Bend, Indiana, for a series against Notre Dame beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET. With 14 conference wins, the Eagles have already matched their second-highest ACC win total since joining the league. A series win would allow Boston College to match or surpass the program record of 16 ACC wins, set in 2023.

Clemson travels to Louisville for a three-game set against the Cardinals. The teams will meet on ACC Network on Saturday, April 25, at 7 p.m. ET and Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m. ET.

Wake Forest travels to Atlanta for a three-game series against No. 3 Georgia Tech. The Demon Deacons and Yellow Jackets will meet on ACC Network on Saturday beginning at noon ET.

NC State and Virginia Tech will meet in Blacksburg, Virginia, in a series with significant implications for both the ACC Baseball Championship race and NCAA Tournament positioning. Both teams rank among the top 50 nationally in RPI, and a series win could provide key momentum down the stretch.

California, one of the ACC’s hottest teams and a winner of five of its last six conference games, travels to Miami for a three-game series against the Hurricanes. Miami enters the weekend in sixth place in the ACC standings with a 10-8 record, while California has won seven of its last 10 games, including a walk-off victory on Wednesday, April 22, against San Francisco.

Around the Horn
  • Boston College entered the week on a seven-game winning streak, including five straight ACC victories. Last week, the Eagles captured the Baseball Beanpot—a four-team, single-elimination tournament featuring Boston-area schools—with wins over UMass and Northeastern.
  • Five ACC teams are ranked in the most recent D1Baseball Top 25. North Carolina leads the ACC at No. 2, followed by No. 3 Georgia Tech, No. 8 Florida State, No. 10 Virginia and No. 22 Boston College.
  • Wake Forest’s Kade Lewis this week became the fourth ACC student-athlete to be named Golden Spikes x D1Baseball National Player of the Week this season. He joins Clemson’s Michael Sharman (Feb. 23), Pitt’s Lorenzo Carrier (March 9) and Florida State’s Trey Beard (March 16).
  • Louisville first baseman Tague Davis leads the country in home runs (24), home runs per game (0.60), runs batted in (73) and runs batted in per game (1.83), while ranking second in total bases (143). He is the only player in the BBCOR Era (since 2011) with 24+ HR and 70+ RBI by April 20.
  • Louisville outfielder Lucas Moore has 96 career stolen bases and needs just one more to tie for 10th in ACC history. His 96 steals are the most by an ACC player since NC State’s Trea Turner (113, 2012-14).
  • Entering the week, Miami’s Daniel Cuvet has 204 career runs batted in, ranking third among active Division I players. His 200 RBI are fourth in Canes history and is the  second-most in Miami’s ACC tenure (Yonder Alonso, 215, 2006-08).
  • In Baseball America’s most recent Projected Field of 64, eight teams from the ACC are expected to make the NCAA Tournament, while D1Baseball is projecting seven ACC teams to the NCAA Tournament. The ACC’s eight teams would mark seven straight years with eight or more teams in the postseason field.
  • Entering the week, eight ACC teams rank in the top 40 of the RPI rankings. Georgia Tech leads the ACC at No. 3, followed by No. 7 North Carolina, No. 10 Florida State, No. 19 Virginia, No. 25 Boston College, No. 26 Wake Forest, No. 33 Miami and No. 40 Clemson.
