CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – No. 5-seeded Miami scored in six of its eight innings at the plate and used an eight-run surge over the final four frames to roll past No. 12-seeded Stanford, 11-2, in the second round of the 2026 ACC Baseball Championship on Wednesday afternoon at Truist Field in Charlotte, North Carolina.
With the win, the Hurricanes advance to Thursday’s quarterfinals, where they will face No. 4 seed Boston College at 3 p.m. ET on ACC Network. Thursday’s schedule was moved earlier in the day due to the threat of inclement weather later in the evening.
Miami’s offense was powered by a monster performance from Alonzo Alvarez, who went 4-for-5 with two home runs, two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored. Every Miami starter recorded at least one hit in the victory.
Stanford was limited to two runs on six hits. Teddy Tokheim led the Cardinal offensively, finishing 2-for-4 with a solo home run, while JJ Moran added an RBI double in the loss.
On the mound, Miami starter Rob Evans improved to 10-3 after turning in 7.0 strong innings. The right-hander allowed just two runs on four hits while striking out six.
Stanford struck first in the top of the second inning on Moran’s RBI double, but Miami answered immediately in the bottom half. Alvarez tied the game with a solo homer before Fabio Peralta delivered an RBI single later in the inning. A Stanford fielding error allowed another run to score as the Hurricanes grabbed a 3-1 advantage.
The Cardinal cut the deficit to 3-2 in the third when Tokheim launched a two-out solo shot to center field, but Miami quickly regained control.
The Hurricanes added two runs in the fourth inning, capitalizing on another Stanford defensive miscue along with a wild pitch and a walk before Max Galvin capped the frame with an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-2.
Miami continued to pull away over the middle innings. Alvarez blasted his second two-run homer of the day in the fifth to push the lead to 7-2, and the Hurricanes added two more runs in the sixth before tacking on insurance runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to complete the 11-2 victory.
