Stanford Advances to Match Play at 2026 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships

CARLSBAD, Calif. (theACC.com) – Stanford won a four-team playoff to claim one of the final two spots in match play and secured the No. 7 seed Monday evening during the final round of stroke play at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.

After Stanford, North Carolina, Tennessee and UCLA tied at 2-under-par, a playoff was needed to determine the final two teams advancing to the quarterfinals. Stanford’s Dean Greyserman, who fired a final-round 68 (-4) to lead the team, recorded the only birdie of the playoff as Stanford finished the playoff at even par to earn the No. 7 seed. UCLA secured the No. 8 seed at 1-over, while North Carolina and Tennessee each finished at 2-over and were eliminated.

Stanford closed the fourth round at 4-under-par (284), tying for the second-lowest round of the day. The Cardinal climbed five spots in the standings after beginning the day tied for 12th place. Greyserman was the top ACC performer, tying for sixth for the tournament at 9-under-par (279).

Virginia’s Ben James finished tied for 16th in the final standings, securing the No. 1 position in the PGA TOUR University rankings and PGA TOUR membership for the rest of the 2026 season and the entire 2027 season. James becomes the second consecutive ACC player to finish atop the PGA TOUR University rankings, following North Carolina’s David Ford in 2025.

Virginia finished 11th in the team standings, while Duke placed 13th. Blue Devil senior Ethan Evans joined Greyserman in the top 10, tying for 10th at 7-under (281). Louisville and Florida State did not advance for the fourth round, finishing outside the top 15.
