ACC Names Field Hockey Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – California junior forward Liz Klompmaker and Syracuse freshman forward Jovie Weaver shared Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Louisville senior goalkeeper Emily Young was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week following the opening week of action, played August 28-30.
 
ACC CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Liz Klompmaker, F, Jr., California (Groningen, The Netherlands)
  • Totaled three goals over the opening weekend, including two against Central Michigan.
  • The two-goal performance was her 10th multi-goal game of her career.
  • Moved into a tie for seventh place on Cal’s career goals list with USA Field Hockey Hall of Famer Renee Chatas.
  • Also logged three assists on the weekend, including a pair against Central Michigan.
 
ACC CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jovie Weaver, F, Fr., Syracuse (Palmyra, Pa.)
  • Logged two game-winning goals in her first two collegiate games for Syracuse.
  • Helped the Orange cap off come-from-behind efforts on the road against both Northeastern and Fairfield.
  • Scored the game-winner in the 25th minute against Fairfield in the season opener.
  • Buried a rebounded shot during an attacking penalty corner for the game-winner as the Orange defeated Northeastern on Sunday.
 
ACC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Emily Young, GK, Sr., Louisville (Houston, Texas)
  • Totaled 22 saves throughout Louisville 2-0 weekend to open the season.
  • Surrendered just two goals in 147:45 of action as both games went to overtime.
  • Stopped a career-high 14 shots in the Cardinals’ win over Indiana on Sunday.
  • Helped Louisville defeat No. 10 Miami (Ohio) with eight saves, including four of five shots in a shootout.
