CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina freshman midfielder/back Sofia Ferri was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, while North Carolina sophomore goalkeeper Merritt Skubisz was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week following games played August 30-September 6.
ACC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sofia Ferri, M/B, Fr., North Carolina (Phoenixville, Pa.)
- Helped pace the Tar Heels to a 2-0 weekend.
- Scored a pair of goals in North Carolina’s 7-0 win over Penn on Friday, September 4.
- Found the back of the cage on both of her shots in Friday’s contest.
- Buried the game-winning goal in Sunday’s penalty shootout to lead the Tar Heels past No. 2 Princeton.
ACC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Merritt Skubisz, GK, So., North Carolina (Houston, Texas)
- Posted two shutouts for North Carolina throughout the week, including Sunday’s win over No. 2 Princeton.
- Logged all 135+ minutes at the goalkeeper position.
- Made six shots throughout the contests, including five in Sunday’s win.
- In a penalty shootout against Princeton, Skubisz stopped each of the opposition’s first three attempts, paving the way for North Carolina’s victory.
