GREENSBORO, N.C.--Georgia Tech senior second baseman Jen Yee was named the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced today by Commissioner John Swofford, and leads the 2010 All-ACC Academic Softball team. Yee, who is making her third appearance on the All-ACC Academic squad, was the ACC Player of the Year in 2010.
To be eligible for Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade-point-average in each of the last two semesters and have maintained a 3.00 GPA throughout her career. Student-athletes must have earned a 3.00 GPA during the spring semester and own the same cumulative mark to be eligible for selection to the All-ACC Academic team.
Yee was a finalist for USA Softball's National Collegiate Player of the Year award as well as the Honda Award, in addition to being selected by the eight head coaches as the ACC Player of the Year. The materials and science engineering major became the second player in league history to win the triple crown in 2010, leading the ACC in batting average (.568), home runs (29), and runs batted-in (63), as well as hits (84), runs (93), walks (88), total bases (188), on-base percentage (.732), and slugging percentage (1.270). Yee's batting average, NCAA-record setting slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and per game averages of runs scored and walks led the nation. A native of North Delta, British Columbia, Yee was a first-team Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America and All-ACC pick, and was named ACC Player of the Week five times during the season, including a national player of the week honor twice.
Also highlighting the 2010 edition of the All-ACC Academic Softball team are Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region picks Renee Ramos of Boston College, Carly Wynn of Florida State, and Kelsi Weseman of Georgia Tech. Nine members of the All-ACC first and second teams garnered All-ACC Academic recognition, including first-team picks Christine Knauer of North Carolina, Ramos, Wynn, Yee, and Weseman; and second-team selections Terese Gober of Florida State, Christy Jones and Kate Kuzma of Georgia Tech, and Richelle McGarva of Virginia Tech.
A total of 14 student-athletes of the 31-member team are returning to the All-Academic squad, including two-time picks Danielle Weir of Boston College; Robin Ahrberg of Florida State; Weseman; Kerry Hickey and Christina Lau of Maryland; Brittany McKinney and Anna Roberts of North Carolina; and Alison Pittman of Virginia; three-time honorees Irene Delagrammaticas of Boston College; Terese Gober of Florida State; and Jones and Yee; and four-time selection Wynn and Allison Presnell of NC State.
All eight of the ACC's softball teams were represented, with North Carolina leading the league with six selections, followed by Boston College, Florida State, and Georgia Tech with five apiece. Virginia garnered four picks, Virginia Tech had three, Maryland had two, and NC State had one.
