ACC quartet honored with postseason recognition
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the 2016-17 Division I national award winners on Tuesday, at the 2017 Division I NCAA Tennis Championships in Athens, Georgia. North Carolina’s Ronnie Schneider was tabbed the ITA Men’s Senior Player of the Year and teammate William Blumberg was named the ITA Rookie of the Year, Virginia’s Dustin Taylor garnered ITA Assistant Coach of the Year recognition and Georgia Tech’s Christopher Eubanks earned the ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award.
Schneider is a 2016 All-American and a four-time All-ACC team member. Over his four-years at Carolina, he collected 118 singles and 91 doubles victories. This season Schneider earned 15 wins over ranked opponents. The senior is a two-time captain for the Tar Heels and was a 2017 ACC Postgraduate Scholarship recipient.
The ACC Freshman of the Year, Blumberg posted a perfect 13-0 record in ACC dual matches and was 19-1 overall. He sports a national ranking of No. 16 in singles and No. 12 in doubles and is one of five players in the country to be ranked in the Top 16 in singles and doubles, but the only one who has achieved these rankings with spring-only results.
Taylor ties Ohio State’s Justin Kronauge for the Assistant Coach of the Year honors. Taylor is in his third season with the Cavaliers and since then the Wahoos have won two ACC Tournament championships, two regular-season crowns, two NCAA titles, and an ITA Division I Men's National Team Indoor Championship.
Along with earning back-to-back ACC Player of the Year honors, Eubanks was also named the ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. Aside from his success on the courts, Eubanks is also a member of the Georgia Tech Student-Athlete Advisory Board, volunteers in the athletic communications office and participates in philanthropic efforts with various other organizations around the Atlanta area.
