Wake Forest & Virginia Advance to 2026 NCAA Championship Semifinals

ATHENS, Georgia (theACC.com) – The 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference men’s tennis regular-season co-champions, Wake Forest and Virginia, both earned victories in the quarterfinals of the 2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship on Thursday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, advancing to the national semifinals.
 
The ACC foes will square off in the semifinals on Saturday, May 16, with a spot in the NCAA Championship match on the line.
 
No. 1 Wake Forest 4, No. 8 Arizona 1
Top-seeded Wake Forest advanced to the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship semifinals for the third consecutive season with a 4-1 victory over No. 8 seed Arizona on Thursday. With the win, the Demon Deacons became just the second program since 2018 to reach five national semifinals appearances, joining Texas.
 
Wake Forest jumped out early by claiming the doubles point in convincing fashion. The No. 1 nationally ranked duo of DK Suresh Ekambaram and Andrew Delgado earned a 6-2 victory on court one, while Mees Rottgering and Kacper Szymkowiak delivered a dominant 6-0 shutout on court two to secure the opening point and a 1-0 lead for the Deacs.
 
The momentum carried into singles play as ACC Freshman of the Year and nationally ranked No. 38 Rottgering extended the lead with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 straight-set win on court two. No. 125 Aryan Shah followed with a 6-4, 6-2 victory on court five to put Wake Forest ahead 3-0.
 
Arizona answered with a point on court three, but Joaquin Guilleme sealed the match for the Demon Deacons on court six. After dropping the opening set, Guilleme rallied for a 0-6, 7-5, 6-3 comeback win to clinch the 4-1 team victory.
 
No. 4 Virginia 4, No. 5 Mississippi State 1
No. 4 seed Virginia advanced to the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship semifinals with a 4-1 victory over No. 5 seed Mississippi State on Thursday.
 
The Cavaliers reached the national semifinals for the 13th time in the last 19 championships and remain in pursuit of a ninth appearance in the NCAA title match over the last 15 tournaments.
 
Virginia secured the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. The tandem of No. 12 Måns Dahlberg and Dylan Dietrich earned a 6-3 win on court one, while Andrés Santamarta Roig and Jangjun Kim followed with a 6-2 victory on court two to clinch the point for the Cavaliers.
 
Mississippi State claimed the opening singles point on court five, but Virginia quickly responded with back-to-back straight-set victories. No. 21 Keegan Rice posted a 6-3, 6-2 win on court two before No. 1 Dietrich earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory on court one to give the Cavaliers a 3-1 advantage.
 
No. 58 Santamarta Roig clinched the match for Virginia on court four, battling to a 6-2, 7-6 (8) victory to seal the 4-1 team win and send the Cavaliers into the national semifinals.
