Virginia’s Ordonez, Clemson’s McLaughlin Earn ACC Player of the Week Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – For the second consecutive week, a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference freshmen have garnered the women’s soccer player of the week awards. Virginia’s Diana Ordonez is the ACC’s Offensive Player of the Week and Clemson’s Hannah McLaughlin is the Defensive Player of the Week.

Ordonez helped lead Virginia to a 2-0 record during the week, highlighted by a win against No. 12 West Virginia Sunday on ACC Network. She scored a pair of goals in each game, as the Cavaliers shut out East Carolina, 4-0, and defeated the Mountaineers, 4-1.

The Prosper, Texas, native scored four times on five shots on goal. Ordonez has scored more than once in three of the Cavaliers’ four matches. She leads the ACC with eight goals and has also tallied two assists to pace the league with 18 points.

McLaughlin opened her collegiate career with three consecutive shutouts, including a pair last week at Nebraska and Creighton. She recorded a career-best eight saves in Clemson’s 2-0 win against the Cornhuskers, highlighted by five in the first half.

A native of Richmond, Virginia, McLaughlin faced seven shots in Sunday’s match versus Creighton and made four saves in a narrow 1-0 win for the Tigers.

Clemson is the only team in the ACC that has not conceded a goal this season. In contrast, the Tigers have scored 11 goals and their goalkeepers have made 17 saves.

ACC women’s soccer is back in full swing on Thursday night with nine of the league’s teams in action, including sixth-ranked Virginia against No. 13 Georgetown at 7 p.m. on ACC Network.
