GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Georgia Tech’s Christian Ferraro has been tabbed the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week while North Carolina’s Anton Down-Jenkins claimed ACC Diver of the Week honors. Virginia’s Alex Walsh earned ACC Women’s Swimmer of the Week honors, while Duke’s Margo O’Meara picked up ACC Diver of the Week honors.
A native of Altivole, Italy, Ferraro notched a pair of first-place finishes last weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational, capturing the 100 butterfly (45.61) and 200 butterfly (1:40.97). His 200 butterfly time of 1:40.33 in the prelims is the best in the nation this season, and he has the only NCAA A cut in the event. His 100 butterfly time was an NCAA B cut and is the eighth-best time in the nation this week. He also earned NCAA B cuts with his 50 freestyle times in the semis (19.64) and finals (19.85).
Down-Jenkins won both springboard events at the Mizzou Invitational, marking the fourth straight meet in which he has swept the events. The native of Wellington, New Zealand, posted a season-best score of 431.05 on the 3-meter springboard and won the 1-meter springboard with a score of 396.05.
Walsh set an ACC and UVA record in the 400 individual medley, won two individual events and was part of two relay wins at the Tennessee Invitational. The native of Nashville, Tennessee, broke an ACC, UVA and meet record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:01.40. She set another meet record with a time of 1:51.83 to win the 200 butterfly, which was just .02 seconds off UVA’s program record. Her times in the 200 butterfly and 400 IM are the best in the country so far this season. She anchored the meet-record setting 400 medley relay team on the first night of competition and also led off UVA’s first-place 200 medley relay team to a 1:34.16 NCAA A time. Walsh also anchored UVA’s second-place 200 free relay team with a NCAA A time of 1:26.61.
O’Meara captured both springboard events against a stout field at the Wolfpack Invitational as she won ACC Diver of the Week honors for the third straight time.
