PITTSBURGH (theACC.com) - For the second consecutive year, Louisville is the Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball champion. The top-ranked Cardinals defeated No. 3 Pitt, 3-1, Wednesday inside Fitzgerald Field House to clinch the title outright, after earning a share of the championship with their win against Duke last Friday.
The ACC title is the fourth in the last seven seasons for the Cardinals (27-0, 17-0), and their third outright. Louisville won the championship outright last season and in 2015, after earning a share with Pitt in 2017.
Louisville also clinched the ACC’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship. The 2021 NCAA Championship field will be unveiled on the NCAA Volleyball Selection Show Sunday, Nov. 28, at 8:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
The Cardinals are the nation’s top-ranked team in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll for the third consecutive week. They are the first ACC team to earn a No. 1 ranking in the history of the conference.
Louisville will conclude the regular-season at home against Notre Dame Friday at 5 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
