GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Following a perfect 2-0 week, Georgia Tech swept the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball weekly honors, announced on Tuesday. For the second consecutive week, junior outside hitter Julia Bergmann has been named the ACC Player of the Week, while freshman outside hitter Bianca Bertolino has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
Bergmann tallied a pair of 20-kill performances to lead the 14th-ranked Yellow Jackets to wins against Miami and Florida State, defeating both teams 3-1. The Munich, Germany, native opened the week with 21 kills and a .436 hitting percentage against the Hurricanes. She also added six digs, four blocks and an ace. Against the Seminoles on Sunday, Bergmann recorded a match-high 20 kills in addition to nine digs, one shy of notching her 12th double-double.
For the week, Bergmann averaged 5.12 kills per set with a .353 hitting percentage. She earned player of the week honors for a conference-leading fourth time this season.
Bertolino’s strong play helped Georgia Tech extend its ACC win streak to 10. She charted nine kills, 10 digs and four blocks in the win over the Hurricanes. Hailing from San Guillermo-Santa Fe, Argentina, Bertolino turned in her best match of the week versus Florida State as she logged 10 kills on 15 attempts with just one error to compile a .600 hitting percentage. She also contributed 10 digs to collect her eighth double-double of the season.
Bertolino finished the week with 19 kills, a .395 hitting percentage and 20 digs.
ACC volleyball action returns Tuesday afternoon, as third-ranked Pitt takes on American at 3 p.m. and Florida State hosts North Florida at 5 p.m.
With a perfect 23-0 record, Louisville is the nation’s top-ranked team in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll, announced on Monday. The Cardinals are the first ACC team to earn a No. 1 ranking in the history of the conference.
