Noting ACC Volleyball
- For the first time in conference history, two ACC teams are in the NCAA national semifinals as No. 1 Louisville and No. 3 Pitt each won their regionals last weekend. It marks the first trip to the semifinals for both teams and the third for an ACC team. Florida State made the league’s only previous trip in 2011 when the Seminoles fell to UCLA, 3-0. No ACC team has ever played for the national championship.
- Louisville has lost just one set during NCAA Tournament play, which was to No. 8 Georgia Tech last weekend in the third meeting between the teams this season. Pitt has only lost two sets, dropping one each against Penn State and Purdue.
- Overall, ACC teams have won 40 sets this postseason and have only lost 12 (excluding the results of the Louisville-Georgia Tech match).
- All four semifinal teams are members of The Alliance, as both matchups feature an ACC team versus the Big Ten. The ACC owns a 12-8 record against the Big Ten this season, including a 3-1 mark in the NCAA Tournament.
- The ACC’s three teams in the regional finals and third round, and five teams in the second round were both the most in conference history. The six teams selected for the championship tied the league record.
- When Georgia Tech and Louisville met in the NCAA Regional Final, it marked the first time two ACC teams have met with a trip to the semifinals on the line.
- The ACC is 13-2 in non-conference matches when both teams are ranked, 10-4 against top-15 opponents and 6-3 against top-10 opponents.
- The ACC is 144-38 in non-conference competition with a .791 win percentage, both the best among Power Five conferences.
- For the second consecutive year, Louisville is the ACC volleyball champion. The ACC title is the fourth in the last seven seasons for the Cardinals, and their third outright. Louisville won the championship outright last season and in 2015, after earning a share with Pitt in 2017.
- The ACC’s three top-eight seeds (No. 1 Louisville, No. 3 Pitt and No. 8 Georgia Tech) are a first in conference history and the most of any conference.
- Florida State, Miami and North Carolina all earned at-large bids. The conference also had six teams earn NCAA Selections in 2017.
- With a perfect 32-0 record, Louisville is the nation’s top-ranked team in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll. The Cardinals are the first ACC team to earn a No. 1 ranking in the history of the conference.
- Pitt holds the No. 3 spot in the AVCA Poll, giving the ACC two of the nation’s top three teams. It marks the 12th consecutive poll that the ACC has had two teams among the top five. Georgia Tech is ranked No. 13, while Miami is No. 24.
- Four ACC teams rank among the top 25 nationally this season in hitting percentage. Louisville leads the league and is fifth at .300, followed by Georgia Tech (seventh, .291), Pitt (10th, .286) and Syracuse (20th, .267). The ACC’s three teams among the top 10 are the most of any conference.
- Three ACC teams rank among the top 30 teams in the NCAA in kills per set this season led by No. 1 Georgia Tech with 15.18. Pitt ranks seventh with 14.26, while NC State is 25th with 13.82 kps.
- Two ACC teams rank among the nation’s top 10 in assists per set, headlined by No. 1 Georgia Tech with 13.90 and No. 6 Pitt with 13.28.
- Louisville’s 3.03 blocks per set ranks second in the NCAA this season. Virginia has recorded 2.68 to rank 13th, while Miami is 16th with 2.65.
