Greensboro, N.C. (theACC.com) – Georgia Tech’s Marcus McDaniel and Virginia’s Chris Rodesch have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Co-Players of the Week, while Virginia’s Carl Söderlund and William Woodall have been selected as the ACC Doubles Team of the Week for the second time this season. Söderlund was also previously named the ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week on March 10.
McDaniel earned two top-15 singles victories in Georgia Tech’s 6-1 win over No. 21 NC State and narrow loss to No. 12 Wake Forest. Playing at the No. 1 singles position, the redshirt freshman from Vacaville, California, defeated Wake Forest’s No. 8-ranked Henri Squire, 7-6 (8), 3-6, 6-2, and NC State’s No. 13-ranked Alexis Galarneau, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
A freshman from Angelsberg, Luxembourg, Rodesch had the clincher for both of Virginia’s victories this weekend, including the 6-1 upset of No. 1 North Carolina and a 4-0 win over No. 36 Duke. The unranked Cavalier defeated both his singles opponents in straight sets, topping UNC’s No. 58-ranked Benjamin Sigouin (6-2, 6-3) and Duke’s No. 94-ranked Edu Guell (6-4, 6-4). Rodesch also clinched the doubles point against Duke with partner Gyan Goetz after they earned a 6-4 win over Guell and Luca Keist.
Söderlund, a graduate student from Stockholm, Sweden, and Woodall, a junior from Washington, D.C., posted a top-five win in doubles during Virginia’s 6-1 upset over top-ranked North Carolina. The Cavalier pair defeated UNC’s No. 5-ranked duo of William Blumberg and Brian Cernoch, 7-6 (2), at the No. 1 doubles position.
