GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina freshman Peter Fountain – the 2021 Atlantic Coast Conference individual champion – has been named the league's Men's Golfer of the Month for April. It is the second consecutive ACC Golfer of the Month honor for Fountain, who shared the award in March with NC State's Benjamin Shipp.
A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Fountain tied the ACC Championship 18-hole and 54-hole scoring records with a second-round 63 and 54-hole total of 200. He helped lead the Tar Heels to the top of the leaderboard in stroke play competition. He shot 28 on the back nine in the second round and came from three strokes behind on the final day to win the individual title by one. Fountain is the first UNC freshman and 10th freshman overall to win the ACC title.
Earlier in the month, Fountain was Carolina’s second-best finisher at the ASU Thunderbird, tying for 23rd in a field of 85 players with a 4-under-par 209 that included a first-round 67.
Fountain's stroke average in April was 68.17.
