FINISH LINES
• Florida State’s Adriaan Wildschutt earned the ACC Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week honor for the third consecutive time when he was recognized on Tuesday. Wildschutt, who won the Covered Bridge Open 8K at Appalachian State on Sept. 3 by nearly 20 seconds, also received the final two weekly awards of last season before placing second at the NCAA Championships.
• Other weekly honorees included Florida State’s Lauren Ryan and North Carolina’s Sasha Neglia (ACC Women’s Co-Performers of the Week), Louisville’s Ian Kibiwot (Men’s Freshman of the Week), and Duke’s Katie Hamilton and Georgia Tech’s Sarah Copeland (ACC Women’s Co-Freshmen of the Week).
• In addition to Wildschutt, other week one men’s race winners from the ACC included Miami’s Osman Humeida (FAU Invitational 5K), Virginia Tech’s Ben Fleming (VT Invitational 6K), Louisville’s Kibiwot (Tennessee Dual 4-mile), Pitt’s Jack Miller (Yinzer Classic 6K) and Syracuse’s Kevin Robertson (Harry Lang Invite 6.4K).
• ACC women’s winners in addition to FSU’s Ryan (Covered Bridge 5K) and UNC’s Neglia (Charlotte Opener 5K) included Miami’s Elle Mezzio (FAU Invitational 5K).
• Notre Dame is set to host the ACC Championships on Friday, Oct. 29. The ACC will close the season in the spotlight on Nov. 20, when Florida State will host the 2021 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships. It will be the second DI NCAA National Championship hosted by FSU and the first since the 1996 women’s tennis national championships. It will mark the fifth time that the NCAA Cross Country Championships have been hosted by a current ACC school and the first since Louisville welcomed the event in 2017.
• The Notre Dame men and NC State women are both coming off runner-up team finishes in last season’s NCAA Championships, and each ranked second nationally in the USTFCCCA coaches' 2021 preseason poll.
