Noting ACC Volleyball
  • Three ACC teams are ranked in the AVCA Top 25 Poll (Oct. 10). Louisville is No. 2, Pitt is No. 8 and Georgia Tech is No. 11.
  • The ACC leads all conferences this season with 117 non-conference victories. 
  • Three ACC matches are slated for ACC Network this week, beginning with Clemson visting No. 11 Georgia Tech on Wednesday evening for a midweek matchup at 7 pm. On Sunday, Notre Dame will play host to Virginia Tech for a 1 pm showing on ACC Network as well as another matinee featuring Syracuse at North Carolina at 1 pm.   
  • Louisville and Pitt enter the week undefeated in conference action at 6-0. The Cardinals host Virginia Tech and Wake Forest while Pitt hosts Miami and Florida State. 
  • Louisville (4th), Pitt (9th), Miami (19th) and Syracuse (21st) have each faced one of the nation’s 25 most difficult schedules based on past opposition winning percentage. Seven Cardinals’ opponents this season have been ranked and Louisville’s previous opponents have compiled a 176-72 (.710) record. Pitt’s prior opponents are 192-95 (.669), Miami’s opponents are 171-100 (.631) and Syracuse’s opponents are 162-97 (.625).
  • Louisville has the nation’s second-longest winning streak against conference opponents after winning its last 35 consecutive league matches. The last team to beat Louisville was Pitt on Oct. 23, 2020. Only Western Kentucky, which has won 48 straight in Conference USA, has a longer streak. Louisville also has the nation’s longest road win streak at 24. Pitt is second with 11 straight road wins.
  • Louisville and Pitt are ranked among the top 30 nationally in hitting percentage. The Cardinals have moved up to sit in second at .316, and Pitt has improved to 13th at .269. Florida State sits 32nd hitting at a .262 clip. 
  • Duke’s Gracie Johnson sits 11th nationally with 36 service aces and sixth in aces per set (0.67). 
  • Two-time ACC Player of the Week Julia Bergmann of Georgia Tech sits third in the NCAA in kills per set (5.24) and ninth in attacks per set (12.43). 
  • Florida State’s Chris Poole and North Carolina’s Joe Sagula rank second and third, respectively, in wins among active head coaches. Poole is second in the country with 888 victories, while Sagula is third with 858 wins. Duke’s Jolene Nagel is 13th with 677.
  • Pitt sits 10th nationally in assists per set (13.14) and 13th in kills per set (14.08). Senior Serena Gray sits 20th in the nation with her .402 hitting percentage. 
  • ACC Network will air 21 conference volleyball matches this season. More than 150 ACC volleyball matches are slated for ACC Network Extra. Follow all the ACC volleyball action with updated scores, schedules at standings at theACC.com.
  • SiriusXM produced an ACC volleyball preview show, which debuted on Thursday, Aug. 18 and is available on demand on the SXM App. Hosted by ESPN’s Katie George, a former standout volleyball player at Louisville, the show features interviews with all 15 head coaches and 19 student-athletes.
  • The ACC is poised for another outstanding year after posting its most successful season in 2021. The ACC had two teams in the national semifinals for the first time in league history and its six NCAA teams tied the league record. The three ACC teams in the regional finals and third round, and five teams in the second round were all the most in conference history.
  • Louisville was selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2022 ACC Volleyball Championship following a vote of the league’s head coaches. The Cardinals received 10 first-place votes, while Pitt earned five. Pitt finished second in the voting with 185 points, followed by Georgia Tech (173), Miami (150) and Florida State (145).
  • Louisville’s five preseason All-ACC selections led the conference, while Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Pitt had three each. Miami had two players on the preseason team and Florida State and Syracuse had one each.
