ACC Announces Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse graduate attack Emily Hawryschuk was tabbed the ACC Offensive Player of the Week, while Duke junior defender Maddie Johnston and Syracuse junior midfielder Kate Mashewske were selected the Co-Defensive Players of the Week as the conference announced weekly women’s lacrosse honors on Tuesday.
 
Hawryschuk piled up 12 goals and four assists in Syracuse’s wins over Cornell and Louisville last week. She posted career highs in points (11) and goals (7) on Tuesday against Cornell. The 11 points tied for second on Syracuse’s single-game record list. She had eight points during a 17-2 scoring run that turned a three-goal deficit to a 12-goal lead. A native of Victor, New York, Hawryschuk scored all five of her goals against Louisville in the second half as Syracuse pulled away for a 23-13 victory on Saturday.
 
Johnston spearheaded Duke’s defense in a 16-15 upset of No. 2 Boston College on Saturday. A native of Baltimore, Johnston earned the second start of her career and racked up a career-high five ground balls while tying a career high with three caused turnovers as the Blue Devils recorded their ninth consecutive win.
 
Mashewske recorded a career-high 19 draw controls in Syracuse’s win against Louisville, tying the Syracuse single-game school record. With 11 draw controls against Cornell, she totaled 30 for the week. The native of West Henrietta, New York, reached double figures in draws for the fifth and sixth time this season with her performances last week. She helped Syracuse win a combined 46-of-70 (.657) draw controls in the two wins.
 
Six ACC women’s lacrosse teams are ranked in the latest Inside Lacrosse Women/IWLCA poll, including four of the top five. North Carolina is ranked No. 1 nationally this week and is followed by Boston College (3), Syracuse (4), Duke (5), Virginia (16) and Notre Dame (18). The ACC has the most teams in the poll among all conferences.
 
North Carolina and Duke square off at 8 p.m. Thursday on ACC Network. The Tar Heels have clinched at least a share of the ACC regular-season title and Duke can earn a share with a win Thursday. Virginia plays at Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. Thursday on ACC Network Extra. Syracuse travels to Boston College at 6 p.m. Friday on ESPNU, while Notre Dame travels to Louisville at noon Saturday on ACC Network in the league’s regular-season finale.
