PITTSBURGH (theACC.com) - Behind a stellar pitching performance from Ariana Adams, No. 9 seed Syracuse earned its first victory in the ACC Softball Championship with a 2-0 win against No. 8 Louisville Wednesday afternoon at Vartabedian Field.

Adams took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before having it end on a single to left field by Louisville’s (27-25) Jenna Servi. The graduate student improved to 9-8 on the year in the circle after pitching six innings with six strikeouts and just one hit allowed.

Angel Jasso provided the only scoring in the contest with a two-run homer to center field in the third inning to give the Orange a 2-0 lead. With two outs in the inning, Paris Woods reached on an infield single to third base and Jasso belted a 2-2 pitch over the fence for her fifth home run of the season.

“My mindset was to go up there hacking,” said Jasso. “I knew her pitches weren’t moving as much as they were when we played them earlier this season, so I wanted to capitalize on that.”

Louisville threatened in the bottom of the seventh, as the first two batters reached but Syracuse relief pitcher Kaia Oliver retired the next three batters to earn the save and preserve the Orange’s first win in the ACC Championship.

Syracuse was 0-6 in its previous six appearances in the championship.

“Obviously, we’re really excited,” said Syracuse head coach Shannon Doepking. “We’ve never won a game in the ACC Championship, so that was one of our goals coming into the season to be the first team to win in this tournament. I think it was a really gusty performance, we made the plays when we needed to and had timely hitting.

“All in all, it was a really complete game and I’m really proud of our team.”

Syracuse will face top-seeded Virginia Tech in Thursday’s quarterfinal at 11 a.m. on ACC Network.
