GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Georgia Tech first baseman Andrew Jenkins has been recognized as the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and leads the sport’s All-ACC Academic Team announced on Monday.
Jenkins started all 60 games at first base for the Yellow Jackets, batting .381 with 22 doubles, one triple and 17 home runs with 70 RBI. The Atlanta native tied for second in the conference with 96 hits. He also ranked second in the ACC in batting average and was third in both runs scored (71) and doubles (22) while earning first-team All-ACC and multiple All-America team honors.
In the classroom, Jenkins earned second-team CoSIDA Academic Team honors after earning a 3.79 grade-point average in his third year in the business administration program at Georgia Tech. Jenkins becomes the second Georgia Tech student-athlete to be named the ACC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the first since Derek Dietrich in 2010.
A total of 27 student-athletes who earned All-ACC honors this season also secured spots on the academic team, highlighted by first-team honorees Max Wagner of Clemson, Jenkins and Kevin Parada of Georgia Tech, Andrew Walters of Miami, John Michael Bertrand of Notre Dame, Alex Tappen of Virginia, Drue Hackenberg and Jack Hurley of Virginia Tech and Rhett Lowder of Wake Forest.
Wagner was voted the 2022 ACC Player of the Year, and Lowder earned ACC Pitcher of the Year honors.
Additionally, seven student-athletes on the All-ACC Freshman Team earned All-ACC Academic Team honors. The team also includes two CoSIDA Academic All-America selections and five student-athletes who were named CoSIDA Academic All-District.
All 14 ACC baseball programs are represented on the All-ACC Academic Team. College World Series participant Notre Dame led all schools with eight selections, and Louisville placed seven on the squad.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September of 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their careers, as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be announced this Friday.
