GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Six Atlantic Coast Conference softball teams earned a spot in the 2023 NCAA Softball Tournament, headlined by three national seeds. ACC Regular Season and Tournament Champion Florida State is the No. 3 seed, Duke is the No. 8 seed and Clemson is the No. 16. Louisville, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech also earned bids.
The league's six teams are the second most of any conference in this year's tournament.
Florida State (50-8), Duke (45-10) and Clemson (46-9) will host regionals while Louisville (35-18), Notre Dame (29-17-1) and Virginia Tech (37-18) will hit the road.
The Seminoles are set to host Marist (29-28) in opening NCAA Tournament action. The 2018 National Champions are making their 35th overall appearance after repeating as ACC Champions and taking home the title for a 19th time.
Duke earned its third consecutive bid to the tournament and is a regional host for the second time in program history. The Blue Devils play host to George Mason (35-22) in hopes to find themselves back in the Super Regionals for a second consecutive year.
Clemson will play host for the second year in a row when it welcomes UNC Greensboro (37-20) to Clemson, South Carolina. The 2023 NCAA Tournament marks the third consecutive appearance for the Tigers - one for every year they have been eligible.
Louisville is set to take on Indiana (42-16) in the Knoxville Regional after earning its first bid to the tournament since 2019. The Cardinals' matchup against the Hoosiers marks their 15th overall appearance.
Notre Dame will head to the Arkansas Regional in Fayetteville to face the Oregon Ducks (35-15) in its 24th consecutive appearance in the tournament, which is tied for the third longest active streak in NCAA softball.
The Hokies will face Boston University (51-8) in their fourth consecutive and 12th overall appearance when they take a trip to Athens, Georgia.
Thirty-two conferences were awarded automatic qualification as conference champions, while the remaining 32 slots were filled with at-large selections to complete the bracket. The top 16 teams were seeded nationally and will host at campus sites beginning Friday.
Regionals will be held May 19-21 with each campus site hosting a four-team, double-elimination tournament. The 16 winning teams advance to the super regionals.
Super regionals for the championship will be held May 25-28 on eight campus sites. At each site, two teams play in a best-of-three tournament format.
The winners from each super regional advance to the NCAA® Women’s College World Series® from June 1-8/9 at OGE Energy Field at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
