BC, Syracuse Win NCAA Quarterfinal Games, Advance to Championship Weekend

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Boston College and Syracuse won their NCAA quarterfinal games Thursday afternoon, advancing to the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship Weekend. This marks the fifth straight tournament and the ninth time in the last 10 tournaments that multiple ACC teams will play in Championship Weekend.
 
The Eagles and Orange will match up in the national semifinals, featuring a rematch of the regular-season finale in which BC rallied for a 17-16 win at Syracuse. The semifinals and championship game will be played Friday, May 26, and Sunday, May 28, at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
 
ESPNU will broadcast the semifinal games at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on May 26, while ESPN will air the championship game at noon on May 28.
 
Second-seeded Syracuse (18-2) pulled away in the second half for a 13-7 win over No. 7 seed James Madison at the JMI Wireless Dome in Syracuse, New York. Syracuse will make its ninth appearance in Championship Weekend. Olivia Adamson led the Orange with four goals and two assists, while Megan Carney recorded a hat trick.
 
No. 3 seed Boston College (18-3) defeated ACC rival Notre Dame (15-6), 20-6, in Newton, Massachusetts. BC earned its sixth straight appearance in the national semifinals. The Eagles have reached the NCAA championship game each of the past five tournaments. Belle Smith had a huge game for BC, scoring five goals while assisting on three more. Jenn Medjid scored four goals and added three assists.
 
No. 4 seed North Carolina saw its season come to an end Thursday following a 5-4 loss to undefeated Denver (22-0), the No. 5 seed, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The young Tar Heel squad finished with a 16-5 record.
 
The ACC owns 17 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse titles and will have a team in the national title game for the 13th time in the last 14 seasons. The ACC has had at least one team in the national semifinals in 33 straight tournaments and 37 times overall.
