SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (theACC.com) – For the first time in program history, Wake Forest won the 2023 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship after a 3-1 victory over USC Wednesday afternoon at Grayhawk Golf Club.
The Demon Deacons claimed the Atlantic Coast Conference’s ninth national championship in women’s golf and first since 2019. ACC teams have now won eight national championships throughout the 2022-23 academic year, the most in league history.
Being the first to tee off in the match, Emilia Migliaccio never trailed and won three of the final five holes to seal her match, 4&2, giving Wake the early 1-0 lead. The back-to-back ACC Player of the Year Rachel Kuehn continued her winning ways with a convincing 6&4 win despite being all squared after six holes.
Lauren Walsh clinched the title with a 3&2 victory after leading her entire matchup.
The ACC’s 15 NCAA titles the last two academic years are also the most among all conferences. The ACC has won NCAA championships this academic year in Women’s Golf (Wake Forest), Women's Cross Country (NC State), Field Hockey (North Carolina), Men's Soccer (Syracuse), Men's Tennis (Virginia) Women's Swimming & Diving (Virginia), Fencing (Notre Dame) and Women's Tennis (North Carolina).
Wake Forest becomes the only school with less than 5,500 current undergraduates to have won NCAA team titles in six unique sports.
