2024 ACC Men's Soccer Championship Continues Sunday with Quarterfinals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) - The 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer Championship moves into quarterfinal play on Sunday, November 10.

ACC Network will broadcast all four quarterfinal matches on Sunday, beginning at 2 p.m. ET with No. 7 seed Stanford at No. 2 seed Clemson. No. 4 seed SMU plays host to No. 5 seed Wake Forest at 4 p.m. ET, followed by No. 11 seed California at No. 3 seed Duke at 6 p.m. ET. Coming off a first-round bye, top-seeded Pitt plays in the nightcap when it entertains No. 9 seed Virginia at 8 p.m. ET.

California, Clemson, Duke, SMU, Stanford, Virginia and Wake Forest scored first-round victories on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinal round. Cal scored the upset of the day, as the No. 11 seed Golden Bears rallied for a 2-1 win at No. 6 seed North Carolina.
 
Five of the seven matches were determined by one goal in an intense day of action. The day was capped by a wild finish as Notre Dame and Stanford traded goals in the final 12 seconds, with the Fighting Irish tying the game with 12 seconds left on a deflected free kick and the Cardinal responding with a goal from just past midfield with two seconds remaining for a 3-2 win.
 
Six ACC teams are ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, including three in the top 10. Both totals are the most of any conference. Duke is No. 2 nationally and is followed by Clemson (7), Pitt (9), North Carolina (14), SMU (15) and NC State (21).

The semifinals will be played Thursday, Nov. 14, at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, with the matches airing on ACC Network at 5:30 and 8 p.m. ET. The championship match will be broadcast from WakeMed Soccer Park on ESPNU on Sunday, November 17, at noon ET.

Tickets are on sale now for the semifinals and championship match at WakeMed Soccer Park and can be purchased HERE. For the first time, a Champions Package is available for purchase for $40 and includes tickets to all six ACC Women’s and Men’s matches. Single-game tickets for the semifinal matches are $10 in advance and $15 on gameday, while championship game tickets are $15 in advance and $20 on gameday. ACC students are admitted for free with a valid school ID.

Noting ACC Men's Soccer
• This is the 38th ACC Men's Soccer Championship and the first with a 15-team field.
• In the last six ACC Championships, there have been six different champions. Clemson is aiming to become the first repeat league champion since Wake Forest in 2016 and 2017.
• Among current ACC programs, Clemson and Virginia lead with 16 ACC Championships apiece. Clemson is second (15). UVA has captured a league-best 11 tournament titles, while Clemson has won five.
• Pitt is the tournament's No. 1 seed for the second time in program history (2021).
• ACC teams finished 76-16-27 (75.2%) in non-conference play, best of any league this season.
• Six ACC teams are ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, including three in the top 10. Both totals are the most of any conference. Duke is No. 2 nationally and is followed by Clemson (7), Pitt (9), North Carolina (14), SMU (15) and NC State (21).
• 13 of the 15 ACC teams have been ranked nationally for at least one week.
• In the latest NCAA RPI on Friday, 12 ACC teams rank among the top 50, led by Pitt at No. 1 and followed by Duke (4), Stanford (9), SMU (10), UNC (16), Clemson (17), Virginia (20), Wake Forest (26), NC State (30), Virginia Tech (41), Notre Dame (44) and California (45).
• All 15 ACC teams rank among the top 75 in the RPI. 
• Four ACC teams rank among the top 20 nationally in scoring offense, with Duke (3.44) and Clemson (2.81) ranking first and third, respectively. Pitt (10th, 2.25) and Notre Dame (18th, 2.12).
• Pitt ranks seventh nationally in scoring defense (0.75).
• Notre Dame's Matthew Roou ranks third nationally in goals (14) and seventh in goals per game (0.82). Duke's Ulfur Bjornsson is seventh in goals (13), while Duke's Adam Luckhurst (11) is 16th.
• Clemson won its fourth national championship to cap the 2023 season – its second title in three years – downing ACC rival Notre Dame, 2-1, in the title game of the NCAA Men's College Cup. 
• ACC teams have won 20 NCAA men’s soccer championships, with 11 since 2001, including the last three (Clemson 2021, Syracuse 2022, Clemson 2023).
• Eight active ACC programs have won at least one national championship, the most of any conference. The 15 active ACC schools have combined for 20 titles.
• Virginia has won seven NCAA men's soccer championships, which is third most all-time. Clemson (4), Stanford (3), North Carolina (2), Duke (1), Notre Dame (1), Syracuse (1) and Wake Forest (1) also have won titles.
• Six active ACC head coaches have won D-I national championships as a head coach: Mike Noonan (Clemson), Carlos Somoano (UNC), Jay Vidovich (Pitt), Jeremy Gunn (Stanford), Ian McIntyre (Syracuse) and George Gelnovatch (Virginia). NC State's Marc Hubbard won a Division II national title in 2013.
• Thirteen of the 15 active league programs have reached the Men's College Cup. Sixty-five ACC teams have reached the Men's College Cup all-time.
• Two ACC teams advanced to the Men's College Cup in each of the last five tournaments. The ACC has had at least one team in the College Cup in 22 of the last 23 seasons.
• Nine ACC teams earned bids to the 2023 NCAA Championship, most of any conference in the 2023 tournament. Stanford (Quarterfinals) and SMU (Third Round) also competed in the 2023 tournament.
