CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – For the third time this season, Pitt senior Cole Matthews was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week, as the team captain recorded his third top-five individual win last Friday, Feb. 9, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
 
In the 141-pound bout of the Panthers' ACC dual at North Carolina, Matthews defeated No. 5 Lachlan McNeil of the Tar Heels by a 6-2 decision, utilizing a six-point move via reversal and near fall points in the second period to build a lead that he would not relinquish.
 
Matthews has already beaten No. 3 Jesse Mendez of Ohio State and No. 4 Ryan Jack of NC State this season.
 
With his win over McNeil, Matthews improved to 3-0 at 141 pounds in ACC duals and extended his winning streak to four matches with just under a month until the 2024 ACC Wrestling Championship.
 
The fourth week of ACC’s Friday Night Duals continues this week on Feb. 16, as Virginia will play host to North Carolina at 8:30 p.m. on ACC Network.
 
Pitt will host Virginia Tech on Friday at 7 p.m. on ACCNX, while NC State will step out of conference for a top-25 showdown with Cornell in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Friday at 7 p.m., also on ACCNX.
 
NC State will return to ACC dual-match competition with a road match at Duke on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. on ACCNX.
