CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State graduate infielder Alec Makarewicz was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, while Duke junior left-handed pitcher Jonathan Santucci earned the conference’s Pitcher of the Week honors.
 
The ACC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week are selected by a 17-member voting panel composed of media members and announced on Mondays during the regular season.

Makarewicz’s hot streak continued into a perfect 5-0 week for the Wolfpack at home. Makarewicz posted a .455 batting average with a team-high 10 hits, four doubles, 13 RBI, 20 total bases and six extra-base hits. The Longwood, Florida, native opened his week with a 3-for-4 performance with four RBI, three runs scored, a home run and a double as NC State routed Queens, 17-2. The Wolfpack third baseman then delivered three additional multi-hit performances in the sweep over Towson, capping off the weekend with a 3-for-5 day at the plate with three doubles, five RBI and a run scored. Makarewicz's final swing of the weekend was a run-rule, walk-off double to center field as the Pack completed the weekend sweep with a 14-4 win over the Tigers. On the season, Makarewicz leads NC State with 24 RBI, 39 total bases, 19 hits and 10 extra-base hits.

Santucci posted a career day on Friday night versus Akron, improving to 3-0 on the season with a 0.00 ERA. The southpaw worked 6.0 innings of one-hit baseball against the Zips, striking out a career-high 14 batters. Against the Zips, Santucci issued just two walks and the lone hit of his outing was a single. The native of Leominster, Massachusetts, has worked 17.0 innings this season, striking out a conference-leading 31 batters with zero runs allowed. Opponents are hitting a measly .169 off the left-hander this season.
