DURHAM, N.C. (theACC.com) - No. 2 seed Florida State claimed a 10-2 win in five innings over No. 6 seed Georgia Tech in the semifinal game of the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Championship at the Duke Softball Stadium to make its second-straight appearance in the championship game.
The Seminoles will face No. 1 seed Duke in a rematch of the 2023 ACC Softball Championship on Saturday, May 11, at 2:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2. The Championship game will feature a pair of top-15 ranked teams in Duke at No. 5 and Florida State at No. 13 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Top 25 Poll.
Georgia Tech claimed a 2-0 lead with a run in the first inning, as Mallorie Black scored off a wild pitch, and another in the top of the fourth as Bridget Condon scored on a bases-loaded walk before FSU's Ashtyn Danley got the Seminoles out of the jam.
The Seminoles would score 10 unanswered runs, including nine in the fourth inning, to seal the deal.
Isa Torres led the Seminoles at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. The freshman led off the fourth with a double to left center before Michaela Edenfield sent a two-run homer to left center to tie the game at 2-2.
Florida State loaded the bases before Kaley Mudge hit a two-RBI single to left field to push the score to 4-2. Jaysoni Beachum added another run with an RBI double down the left field line.
Torres would return to the plate to launch her eighth home run of the season and first-career grand slam to give FSU a 9-2 lead heading into the fifth.
In the fifth, Amaya Ross walked and reached third on a Hallie Wacaser single to center field, before Mudge pushed the winning run over the plate to secure a spot in the championship game for Florida State.
Florida State took home its 19th ACC Championship title in dramatic fashion last year with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Seminoles topped Duke, 2-1. It marked Florida State’s second-ever walk-off win to capture the title and the Seminoles’ second consecutive ACC Championship title. The 2023 Championship marked the Seminoles’ eighth in the last nine tournaments.
