ACC Announces Volleyball Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) - Pitt’s Olivia Babcock was named Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week while Stanford's Spencer Etzler was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week. SMU’s Averi Carlson garnered ACC Setter of the Week honors while Louisville’s Kalyssa Blackshear was named ACC Freshman of the Week for matches played October 6-12.
 
ACC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Olivia Babcock, Jr., Right Side Hitter, Pitt (Los Angeles, California)
  • Totaled 48 kills, an average of 6.00 kills per set in a five-set setback to No. 18 Miami and a sweep of Florida State.
  • Hit .455 on the weekend.
  • Averaged a conference-best 6.94 points per set last week.
  • Third ACC Offensive Player of the Week Award this season (August 25, September 29).
 
ACC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Spencer Etzler, Fr., Libero, Stanford (Coldwater, Ohio)
  • Totaled 37 total digs, an average of 6.71 digs per set.
  • Registered a career-high 20 digs against Syracuse.
  • Recorded zero reception errors on 14 total attempts
  • Second ACC Defensive Player of the Week Award this season (August 25).
  • Was also named the ACC Freshman of the Week on August 25.
 
ACC SETTER OF THE WEEK
Averi Carlson, Sr., Setter, SMU (Lucas, Texas)
  • Recorded 89 assists, an average of 11.13 assists per set, in victories over Florida State and No. 18 Miami.
  • Registered 19 digs and seven total blocks defensively.
  • Totaled 52 assists and 11 digs against Florida State to record her fifth double-double of the season.
  • Fourth ACC Setter of the Week Award this season (September 1, September 15 and September 22).
 
ACC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Kalyssa Blackshear, Fr., Opposite, Louisville (Lomita, California)
  • Recorded 30 kills, an average of 4.29 kills per set.
  • Hit .448 on the week.
  • Had a career-high 20 kills against Virginia.
  • Totaled six blocks on the week.
