CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) - Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball kicks off another week of league play on Wednesday, October 15, as Virginia heads to Blacksburg, Virginia, to take on Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. ET on ACC Network.
Louisville sits atop the league standings with a 6-0 conference record and 14-2 overall mark. North Carolina, 13-2 overall, is the only other team to remain undefeated in the league following the third week of conference play (6-0).
The ACC will feature three Top 25 matchups this week, with Louisville playing host to two, as the No. 4 Cardinals welcome No. 8 SMU on Friday, October 17, at 7 p.m. ET on ACCNX and No. 6 Pitt on Sunday, October 19, at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN. No. 14 Miami will head to No. 5 Stanford at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday on ACCNX to round out the weekend.
In the most recent AVCA/Taraflex Poll, Louisville led the ACC in the No. 4 spot nationally, with Stanford (No. 5), Pitt (No. 6), SMU (No. 8), Miami (No. 14) and North Carolina (No. 21) filling out the rest of the Top 25. The ACC has the most teams of any conference in the top 10.
Noting ACC Volleyball
- Pitt’s Olivia Babcock was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week while Stanford’s Spencer Etzler was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week. SMU’s Averi Carlson garnered ACC Setter of the Week honors while Louisville’s Kalyssa Blackshear was named ACC Freshman of the Week for matches played October 6-12.
- The ACC has the most teams in the current NCAA DI Volleyball RPI Top 10, headlined by Pitt (No. 3), Louisville (No. 4), SMU (No. 6) and Stanford (No. 9).
- SMU earned its highest ranking in program history at No. 8 in the AVCA DI Volleyball Top 25 poll released on Monday, October 13.
- Miami’s Colon leads the nation in kills per set (5.40) and points per set (6.32).
- The ACC finished non-conference play with an overall record of 129-55 (.701), headlined by 10 wins against AVCA Top 25 teams and the inaugural ESPN Events “Showdown at the Net” title, after winning nine of the 16 matches against the SEC.
- Pitt head coach Dan Fisher reached his 400th career win on September 10, in the Panthers’ win over No. 3 Kentucky.
- SMU’s Malaya Jones was named the AVCA Division I National Player of the Week on Tuesday, September 2.
- Pitt was voted the preseason favorite to win the 2025 ACC Volleyball Championship for the second straight year by the league’s volleyball head coaches.
- Ten ACC standouts were named to the AVCA Division I Player of the Year Watch List. The list included Chloe Chicoine (Louisville), Cara Cresse (Louisville), Flormarie Heredia Colon (Miami), Safi Hampton (North Carolina), Olivia Babcock (Pitt), Bre Kelley (Pitt), Favor Anyanwu (SMU), Jaydn Livings (SMU), Malaya Jones (SMU) and Elia Rubin (Stanford).
- Florida State’s Chris Poole ranks first among active NCAA Division I coaches with 947 victories in 39 seasons. Duke’s Jolene Nagel ranks fifth on that list with 717 career wins.
- Louisville’s Dan Meske, NC State’s Megan Wargo-Kearney and Wake Forest’s Jeff Hulsmeyer are all in their first year as head coach of their programs.
