Wake Forest Men’s Tennis Wins ITA National Team Indoor Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Wake Forest Demon Deacons men’s tennis team defeated No. 1 TCU 4-3 on Tuesday night to win the 2025 ITA Division I Men’s National Team Indoor Championship at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on the campus of SMU in Dallas, Texas.

It is the Demon Deacons’ first ITA National Team Indoor Championship title since 2018. With the win, Wake Forest became just the 13th team in the competition's history to win multiple titles.

The ITA National Men’s Team Indoor Championship showcases 16 top men’s Division I teams in the four-day tournament to crown an indoor national champion.

The No. 2 nationally ranked Demon Deacons downed the Horned Frogs 4-3 to spoil TCU’s bid to win its third title in the last four years. TCU won the championship in 2022 and 2023 and finished as the runner-up last year to Ohio State.

Wake Forest earned the doubles point and took an early 1-0 match lead with wins on courts one and three. No. 30 ranked duo of Stefan Dostanic and Dhakshineswar Suresh defeated the No. 2 ranked tandem of Lui Maxted and Pedro Vives, 6-2, on court one, while WF’s team of Franco Capalbo and Ioannis Xilas held on for a 7-5 win on court three over TCU’s Duncan Chan and Albert Pedrico Kravtsov.

In singles play, the Demon Deacons’ Luca Pow put Wake Forest up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court six, only to see TCU tie the match up at 2-2 with wins on courts two and three.

With three matches remaining, No. 100 Xilas defeated No. 92 Chan 6-2, 7-6 (9) on court four to put the Demon Deacons back on top 3-2 and one win away from the match win.

However, TCU’s Cooper Woestendick kept the No. 1 team in the nation alive with a three-set win at 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on court five to tie the match up at 3-3.

It came down to court one, where No. 17 Dostanic outlasted TCU’s No. 18 Jack Pinnington 7-6 (3), 5-7, 6-4 to win the match 4-3.

En route to its second ITA National Team Indoor Championship, Wake Forest defeated host SMU, 4-0, in the first round before beating No. 19 NC State, 4-2, in the second round to advance to the semifinals.

In the semifinals, the Demon Deacons downed No. 3 Texas, 4-3, to move on to the championship match for the first time since 2018.

The Demon Deacons are 14-0 thus far this spring season with ranked wins over No. 1 TCU, No. 3 Texas, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 6 Columbia, No. 13 Tennessee and No. 19 NC State.
