This Weekend in ACC Baseball

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Atlantic Coast Conference teams will play six games against Power Four conference opponents in the third weekend of the season. Six teams throughout the ACC are ranked in D1Baseball’s Top 25 poll, which was released on Monday, February 24. North Carolina leads the ACC at No. 5, followed by No. 7 Florida State, No. 10 Virginia, No. 12 Wake Forest, No. 13 Clemson and No. 17 Duke.

Miami’s three-game series against No. 8 Florida in Gainesville, Florida, will highlight the league’s non-conference slate this week. Through the first two weeks of the season, Miami is holding opposing hitters to a nation’s best .127 batting average against, while racking up 99 strikeouts, which ranks second in the ACC. On balls in play, opponents are hitting just .201 against the Hurricanes, which is 27 points lower than the second-best mark in the country. The Hurricanes will be the lone ACC team to face a ranked opponent this weekend.

Much like Miami, No. 13 Clemson will battle its in-state rival, South Carolina, in a three-game set this weekend. The Tigers host the Gamecocks on Friday, February 28, before playing a neutral site contest in Greenville, South Carolina, on Saturday, March 1. On Sunday, March 2, the Tigers will travel to Columbia, South Carolina, for the series finale beginning at 5 p.m. ET.

Stanford, Florida State and North Carolina all remain undefeated to begin this season and are three of the final 13 undefeated teams in the country. North Carolina leads the group with nine wins, while Florida State and Stanford have eight wins apiece.
