2025 ACC Softball Season Begins Thursday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – All 15 Atlantic Coast Conference softball programs begin their 2025 campaigns on Opening Weekend. NC State, Clemson, Florida State, Boston College, Virginia and Stanford are in action on Thursday, February 6, while the remaining nine teams hit the field for the first on Friday, February 7.

The action begins early on Thursday, as NC State, Clemson and Florida State all hit the field before noon ET. No. 12 Florida State will participate in the 2025 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The Seminoles will take on No. 4 Oklahoma State and Northern Colorado on Thursday and Louisiana Tech on Friday, before going up against Oklahoma State and Louisiana Tech again on Saturday. All games will be streamed on FloSoftball.

No. 8 Duke, Notre Dame and Pitt are all heading to Clearwater, Florida, to compete in the 2025 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic. The three ACC teams participating in the classic will face off against ranked opponents in No. 5 Tennessee, No. 10 Texas Tech, No. 15 Missouri, No. 16 Nebraska, No. 20 Northwestern and No. 25 Mississippi State. Other teams participating in the classic are Bethune Cookman, Iowa, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Marshall, Morgan State, Penn State and Southern Mississippi. All games will be available to watch on the GameChanger mobile app.

A total of 76 games are scheduled across the ACC beginning on Thursday, February 6, through Sunday, February 9. There are a total of six ranked matchups across the four-day stretch, with four for No. 8 Duke and two for No. 12 Florida State. The Blue Devils will face No. 10 Texas Tech on Friday, No. 20 Northwestern and 25 Mississippi State on Saturday, and No. 15 Missouri on Sunday. The Seminoles will take on No. 4 Oklahoma State twice, with one game on Thursday and one on Saturday.

Opening Weekend Highlights

  • Duke was voted the preseason favorite to win the 2025 ACC softball title by the league’s 15 head coaches and 14 student-athletes were named to the Preseason All-ACC team. (Release)

  • In the D1 Softball Preseason Poll, Duke is No. 7, Florida State is No. 8, Virginia Tech is No. 16 and Stanford is No. 22.
  • In the NFCA/GoRout Softball Preseason Poll, Duke it No. 7, Florida State is No. 9, Virginia Tech is No. 17, Stanford is No.18 and Clemson is No. 25.
  • Nine ACC softball players were named to the USA Softball Top 53 Watch List for the 2025 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, USA Softball announced on Wednesday, January 22. Among the list are Florida State’s Julia Apsel, Jaysoni Beachum, Michaela Edenfield and Isa Torres, Duke’s Aminah Vega, Cassidy Curd and D’Auna Jennings, and Virginia Tech’s Emma Lemley and Bre Peck.
  • Five ACC student-athletes were named Preseason All-Americans by D1 Softball. Florida State’s Isa Torres (SS) and Jaysoni Beachum (3B) joined Virginia Tech’s Cori McMillan (UTL) on the first team. Florida State’s Michaela Edenfield (C) and Duke’s D’Auna Jennings (OF) were named to the second team.
  • Eight ACC student-athletes were named Preseason All-Americans by Softball America. Florida State’s Isa Torres (SS) and Jaysoni Beachum (3B) joined Virginia Tech’s Cori McMillan (UTL) and Duke’s Aminah Vega (2B) on the first team. Florida State’s Michaela Edenfield (C), Clemson’s Maddie Moore (2B), and Cal’s Acacia Anders (SS) and Elon Butler (UTL) were named to the second team.
  • The 2025 season features one new head coach across the league in Kris Ganeff at Notre Dame.
