CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) - Virginia swept the Atlantic Coast Conference weekly softball awards as Jade Hylton was named the ACC Player of the Week and Eden Bigham was tabbed the ACC Pitcher of the Week for games played April 14-20.
The ACC softball weekly awards are voted on by a panel of representatives from both the schools and the conference office.
Hylton was voted the ACC Player of the Week for the second straight week after hitting .583 (7-for-12) for the Hoos. Just one week after setting the program career record for home runs, the Martinsville, Virginia, native tied the program record for single-season home runs (15) in the final game of the series against Louisville to help secure the series win while also setting the program record for the most home runs in a season by a team (56). Hylton closed out the week with seven hits, six runs, five RBIs, two home runs and a triple.
Bigham went 3-0 on the week with a combined shutout and a solo shutout to help lead the Hoos to their first-ever series win over Louisville. The Rustburg, Virginia, native struck out 13 batters and allowed only two earned runs in 16.1 innings pitched for an ERA of 0.86 while holding her opponents to a .130 batting average. Bigham moved to eighth in the Virginia career strikeouts leaderboard after passing the 400 mark against Louisville on Sunday, April 19.
