CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The 2024-25 Atlantic Coast Conference men’s tennis awards were announced on Thursday, as Notre Dame junior Sebastian Dominko and Virginia freshman Rafael Jódar were voted the 2024-25 ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, respectively, by the league’s 16 head coaches. Wake Forest head coach Tony Bresky was voted the Coach of the Year.
Dominko, who also picked up First-Team All-ACC honors for his play this season, was named the ACC Player of the Week on March 25 when he posted singles wins over the No. 6 and No. 26 ranked players in the country from Wake Forest and NC State, respectively, in the same weekend.
The junior won more matches than anyone else in the conference at the No. 1 singles position, going 9-1 in ACC regular season play, including winning each of his first eight conference matches, and was leading in all three of his unfinished matches in ACC play.
Ranked in the ITA Men’s Tennis Singles Rankings all season long and reaching as high as No. 18, the Maribor, Slovenia, played in every match this season for the Fighting Irish, going 19-4 overall in singles play over the spring season and 27-8 overall on the year, which included a 10-4 record versus nationally ranked players for the year. He also posted a 26-9 record in doubles play on the season, predominantly playing alongside Chase Thompson.
A four-time ACC Freshman of the Week honoree and a First-Team All-ACC selection, Jódar had a strong first season in Virginia, helping lead the Cavaliers to the championship match of the 2025 ACC Men’s Tennis Championship last week. Climbing as high as No. 4 in the ITA Men’s Tennis Singles Rankings this season, Jódar went 17-2 overall in singles play after joining the team in January 2025, including a perfect 8-0 mark in ACC play.
The freshman from Madrid, Spain, went 13-1 on court one and 4-1 on court two in singles play this spring, including a stellar 12-1 record versus nationally ranked opponents, highlighted by top-10 victories over No. 3 Timo Legout of Texas, No. 5 DK Suresh Ekambaram of Wake Forest and No. 9 Carl Emil Overbeck of California. He also posted a 10-4 record in doubles play and reached as high as No. 70 in the ITA Doubles Rankings with James Hopper on March 18.
Leading Wake Forest to an undefeated regular season record and an outright ACC regular season title, Bresky was voted the ACC Coach of the Year. The ACC honor is the third of his career, having also won the award in 2013 and 2016.
Ranked No. 1 nationally in the ITA Men’s Tennis Team Rankings since February 20, Bresky has led the Demon Deacons to a 34-1 overall record this season, which included a perfect 13-0 conference ledger, tying the program record for most wins in a single season with 34.
Wake Forest, which was the last undefeated team in all of NCAA Division I men’s tennis at 34-0, defeated TCU 4-3 to win the 2025 ITA Division I Men’s National Team Indoor Championship at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on the campus of SMU in Dallas, Texas, on February 18. The win was the Demon Deacons’ first ITA National Team Indoor Championship title since 2018 and second overall to become just the 13th team in the competition's history to win multiple titles.
In addition to the End of the Year Awards, the conference also announced the All-ACC Singles and Doubles Teams on Thursday, which included Carl Emil Overbeck of California, Corey Craig of Florida State, Samir Banerjee of Stanford and DK Suresh Ekambaram joining Dominko and Jódar on the first team.
Eleven different schools had at least one student-athlete named to an All-ACC Singles team, while the nine All-ACC Doubles teams came from nine different schools.
