BRIGHTON, Mass. (theACC.com) - Clemson sophomore Kylee Johnson blasted a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to propel No. 2-seed Clemson to a 2-1 win over No. 1-seed Florida State in the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game to win its first ever ACC Softball Championship title on Saturday, May 10.
The championship game was sold out for the fourth straight year with a stadium-capacity crowd of 1,200 fans at Harrington Athletics Village in Brighton, Massachusetts.
After two scoreless innings, Florida State struck first, with a solo homer from Hallie Wacaser in the third inning.
That is where the score would stand until Johnson’s game-changing home run in the top of the seventh.
The Tigers recorded just three hits the entire game, with one from catcher Aby Vieira and the other two from Johnson.
The Seminoles recorded eight hits from eight different players, led by Wacaser’s solo home run which was Florida State’s sole run of the game.
Pitchers Reese Basinger and Brooke McCubbin each had a strikeout for the Tigers. McCubbin earned the win, recording her 15th of the season, walking just one batter and allowing no runs over 4.0 innings of work.
Florida State pitcher Julia Aspel recorded five strikeouts for the Seminoles while allowing no hits in 3.0 innings pitched. Ashtyn Danley and Jazzy Francik had two strikeouts apiece.
Clemson’s Taylor Pipkins was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2025 ACC Softball Championship. Before the championship game, the freshman hit .800 ( 4-for-5) with five RBIs. Four of the five RBIs came from a grand slam against Virginia in the quarterfinals to help send the Tigers to the semifinals.
Clemson earned the league’s automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Division I Softball Championship by securing the ACC title. The NCAA Selection Show is slated for Sunday, May 11, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Regional action will begin later in the week on Friday, May 16.
