League-Record Nine ACC teams Headed to 2025 NCAA Softball Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) - The Atlantic Coast Conference will send a league-high nine teams to the 2025 NCAA Division I Softball Championship, headlined by three national seeds it was announced on Sunday, May 11. 2025 ACC Regular Season Champion Florida State is the No. 5-seed, while ACC Champion Clemson is the No. 11-seed and Duke is the No. 14-seed.
 
California, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Stanford, Virginia and Virginia Tech all earned at-large bids to the tournament. 
 
Florida State (46-9), Clemson (44-12) and Duke (38-16) will host regionals on their home turf while California (35-19), Georgia Tech (27-22), North Carolina (40-15), Stanford (40-11), Virginia (37-17) and Virginia Tech (41-11) will hit the road for regional play.
 
No. 5-seed Florida State is making its 37th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament, kicking off the tournament against Robert Morris on Friday, May 16. The Seminoles and Colonials will be joined by Auburn and South Florida in Tallahassee, Florida, this weekend. Under head coach Lonni Alameda, the 2025 ACC Coach of the Year, the Seminoles are searching for their first national championship title since 2018.
 
No. 11-seed Clemson will host a regional for the third time after winning its first ACC Softball Championship title in program history. The Tigers will welcome Kentucky, Northwestern and USC Upstate, taking on USC Upstate on Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
 
No. 14-seed Duke earned its fifth consecutive bid to the tournament and is a regional host for the fourth time since the program's inception in 2018. The Blue Devils welcome Georgia, Coastal Carolina and Howard to Durham, North Carolina, in hopes of finding themselves back in the super regionals for a fourth consecutive year. First pitch is set against Howard on Friday at noon ET.
 
California will head to Norman, Oklahoma, to take on Omaha this Friday for the Golden Bears’ third straight NCAA tournament appearance, while Georgia Tech is headed south to Gainesville, Florida, to face off with Florida Atlantic in the Gainesville Regional hosted by Florida. Both teams qualified for the 2025 ACC Softball Championship, with the Yellow Jackets reaching the quarterfinals.
 
North Carolina earned its first trip back to the NCAA tournament since 2019. The Tar Heels will be the No. 3 seed in the Knoxville Regional, taking on Ohio State on Friday at 4 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
 
Stanford will travel to Eugene, Oregon, to face Binghamton on Friday. The Eugene Regional, hosted by Oregon, will also include Weber State. This marks Stanford’s 22nd NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and sixth consecutive season qualifying for the postseason. The Cardinal has advanced to the super regionals in the last three seasons and the Women’s College World Series in the last two.
 
Virginia will make its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA DI Softball Tournament, as the Cavaliers head to Columbia, South Carolina, to take on North Florida in the Columbia Regional. The Cavaliers will open up versus the Ospreys on Friday at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
 
Virginia Tech will face the Belmont Bruins in their sixth consecutive and 14th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament, in the Tuscaloosa Regional, hosted by No. 15-seed Alabama. First pitch is set for Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
 
Regionals will be held May 16-18 with each campus site hosting a four-team, double-elimination tournament. The 16 winning teams will advance to the super regionals.
 
Super regionals for the championship will be held May 22-25 on eight campus sites. At each site, two teams play in a best-of-three tournament format.

The winners from each super regional advance to the NCAA Women’s College World Series from May 29-June 5/6 at Devon Park, formerly the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
