Wake Forest, Stanford & Virginia Ready for Quarterfinals of the 2025 NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Three Atlantic Coast Conference men’s tennis teams — No. 1 Wake Forest, No. 4 Stanford and No. 7 Virginia — will continue their quest for a national title with quarterfinal matches at the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship on Friday, May 16, at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.

The matches will be streamed live on ESPN+.

The ACC's three teams in the Elite Eight are the most of any conference.

Quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, May 17, with the national championship match scheduled for Sunday, May 18, at 8 p.m. ET.

Top-seeded Wake Forest (37-1) will face eighth-seeded Columbia (20-4) in the quarterfinals on Friday at 11 a.m. ET. Columbia advanced with a 4-2 win over No. 9-seed NC State.

The Demon Deacons, 2025 ITA National Indoor Champions, are enjoying a record-breaking season. With 37 victories, they’ve already set a new program record for wins in a single season. Wake Forest also went a perfect 23-0 at home, marking its second flawless home season in the past four years.

This marks Wake Forest's fifth appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals since 2017, and their second in a row. The Demon Deacons are one of only five programs to reach the quarterfinals at least five times during this period, alongside TCU, Texas, Virginia and Ohio State.

A win on Friday would put Wake Forest in the national semifinals for the fourth time since 2018, a feat matched only by Texas and Ohio State.

Fourth-seeded Stanford (25-5) faces 12th-seeded Mississippi State (25-5) at 2 p.m. ET.

The Cardinal are making their first NCAA quarterfinal appearance since 2012 after completing a perfect 12-0 season at home and defeating 13th-seeded South Carolina in the super regionals. Their 25 victories this year match the program’s highest win total since 2003.

Stanford, the 2025 ACC Champion, is seeking its first trip to the semifinals since 2003. The Cardinal owns 17 NCAA titles — second only to USC’s 21 — but are chasing their first national championship since 2000.

Seventh-seeded Virginia (23-7) will meet second-seeded TCU (25-3) at 5 p.m. ET.

A six-time national champion, Virginia is making its sixth straight appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals and 18th in the last 20 years. The Cavaliers are aiming to return to the semifinals for the first time since their back-to-back national titles in 2022 and 2023.

All six of Virginia’s NCAA championships have come since 2013, including a three-peat from 2015–17 and the recent titles in 2022 and 2023.

As part of a two-year pilot program, the NCAA men’s singles and doubles championships were held in the fall of 2024, while the team competition remains in the spring.
