BRIGHTON, Mass. (theACC.com) - No. 7-seed Virginia defeated No. 10-seed Louisville in walk-off fashion, 3-2, on Wednesday, May 7, in game three of the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Championship at the Harrington Athletics Village in Brighton, Massachusetts.
With one out and runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh inning and the score tied at 2-2, Kelly Ayer laced a double to left-center field to drive in Kailyn Jones for the 3-2 walk-off win over the Cardinals.
The Cavaliers move on to the quarterfinals to take on No. 2 seed Clemson on Thursday, May 8, at 5 p.m. ET.
Virginia recorded seven hits, led by Sydney Hartgrove who had two hits to drive in two key runs. Ayer added two hits, including a walk-off RBI double to help the Hoos advance to the next round.
The pitching duo of Savanah Henley and Eden Bigham combined for five strikeouts while holding Louisville to just one earned run on eight hits in the victory.
Thursday’s 5 p.m. ET matchup between the Hoos and Tigers will be broadcast on ACC Network.
