North Carolina Defeats Notre Dame 2-0 to Advance to ACC Championship Quarterfinals

BRIGHTON, Mass. (theACC.com) - No. 6-seed North Carolina defeated No. 11-seed Notre Dame, 2-0, on Wednesday, May 7, to close out the first round of the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Championship at the Harrington Athletics Village in Brighton, Massachusetts.

Following three innings of scoreless softball, North Carolina’s Sanaa Thompson kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double to left center, scoring Kat Rodriguez. Later in the same inning, Rayna Blackwell singled to right center to drive in Thompson to put the Tar Heels up 2-0.

The two runs were all that UNC starting pitcher Kenna Raye Dark would need, as she threw a complete game shutout. She allowed just four hits and struck out four hitters over 7.0 scoreless innings.

The Tar Heels advanced to the quarterfinals to take on No. 3-seed Virginia Tech on Thursday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. ET on ACC Network.

Ticket books, which include access to all 11 games, including the championship game on Saturday, are priced at $45. Daily tickets are also available, with prices ranging from $12-20. Tickets are now available by visiting BCEagles.com or calling the Boston College Athletics Ticket Office at 617-552-4622.
