BRIGHTON, Mass. (theACC.com) - No. 2-seed Clemson defeated No. 7-seed Virginia, 7-4, on Thursday, May 8, to advance to the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Championship Semifinals at the Harrington Athletics Village in Brighton, Massachusetts.
Clemson’s Aby Vieira drove in the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth, driving in Kennedy Ariail with an RBI single.
Virginia quickly answered back with two runs in the top half of the fifth inning on a two-run single by Jade Hylton to take a 2-1 lead.
The contest soon became a home run battle in the bottom of the fifth when Clemson’s Maddie Moore hit her 16th home run of the season, a two-run shot to put Clemson up 3-2.
The very next inning, Virginia’s Macee Eaton homered over the left field fence to collect two RBIs to give the Cavaliers the lead once again over the Tigers, 4-3.
With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Clemson freshman Taylor Pipkins hit the first grand slam of her collegiate career to put the Tigers up 7-4 and help clinch the quarterfinal win for Clemson.
The Tigers advanced to the semifinals to take on the winner of Virginia Tech vs. North Carolina on Friday, May 9, at 12:30 p.m. ET on ACC Network.
