ACC Women's Basketball Recap - January 22

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) –  Florida State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Virginia and Virginia Tech earned wins on Thursday. 

Virginia Tech 71, Clemson 68 | Box Score | Highlights
  • Outscoring Clemson 22-9 in the fourth quarter, Virginia Tech secured the come-from-behind win inside Cassell Coliseum.
  • Leading the Hokies to their fourth straight victory, Carys Baker and Carleigh Wenzel each posted 24 points, while Samyha Suffren added 12 points.
  • In the decisive fourth quarter, Virginia Tech held Clemson to just 27.3 percent (3-for-11) from the field and 0-for-3 from 3-point range, as the Tigers did not score in the final 2:38 of the game.
  • The Tigers were led by Taylor Johnson-Matthews with 20 points and Raven Thompson, who finished 8-of-10 from the field and registered 16 points.

Notre Dame 74, Miami 66 | Box Score | Highlights
  • Junior guard Hannah Hidalgo led all scorers with 24 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, to help snap Notre Dame's two-game losing skid against Miami.
  • Hidalgo became the fastest player in ACC history to reach 2,000 career points, reaching the milestone in just 86 games. In addition, the guard tallied 10 steals, becoming the program's all-time steals leader with 382 for her career.
  • Teammate Iyana Moore added 19 points, while Cassandre Prosper, who played all 40 minutes, recorded 12 points and eight rebounds.
  • Three Hurricanes scored in double figures led by Amarachi Kimpson's season-high 21 points, including her 1,000th career point, and Ra Shaya Kyle's league-leading 13th double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Virginia 84, Pitt 46 | Box Score | Highlights
  • Opening the night on a 7-0 run, Virginia never looked back and snapped its two-game losing streak with a victory over Pitt.
  • Caitlin Weimar scored a season-high 20 points and added seven rebounds, while Kymora Johnson registered 17 points, nine assists and five steals.
  • As a team, the Cavaliers forced 16 turnovers and turned them into 24 points.
  • Theresa Hagans Jr. led the Panthers with 13 points for her fourth double-figure scoring performance in her last five games.

Florida State 73, SMU 51 | Box Score | Highlights
  • Knocking down 12 3-pointers, Florida State jumped back into the win column at SMU.
  • Jasmine Shavers buried six of FSU's 12 triples and led all players with 22 points, her highest point total in a conference game this season.
  • The Seminoles outrebounded the Mustangs 56-32 on the evening, led by Pania Davis' game-high 14 rebounds to go along with her 12 points for her third double-double on the year.
  • Miriam Ibezim led SMU with a season-high 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting, while Anaya Brown narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and nine boards.

North Carolina 54, Georgia Tech 46 | Box Score | Highlights
  • After the teams went into halftime deadlocked at 24-24, North Carolina outscored Georgia Tech 30-22 in the second half to earn its third straight victory.
  • Lanie Grant and Reniya Kelly recorded 11 points apiece, while Elina Aarnisalo posted 10 points. Underneath the basket, Ciera Toomey narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
  • The Tar Heels outrebounded the Yellow Jackets, 55-34, including UNC's 25 offensive rebounds that led to 15 second-chance points.
  • Talayah Walker led Georgia Tech with 14 points, while Brianna Turnage posted 11 rebounds and nine blocks, the most blocks ever recorded against a UNC team.
